State logs less than 2,000 new cases, and 12 fatalities; city sees eight Omicron cases

Mumbai reported 192 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, the lowest daily count since December 13, 2021, and two fresh fatalities linked to the infection. At least 350 more patients were discharged following recovery, the city civic body said. On December 13, 2021, Mumbai had logged 174 infections and two fatalities.


The metropolis remained free of sealed buildings and containment zones for the fifth day in a row. Both the deceased had comorbidities and were above 60 years. The number of hospital beds occupied by coronavirus patients dropped below 1000, the BMC bulletin said.

The daily positivity rate stands at 0.67 per cent, it said. The city’s recovery rate stood at 98 per cent. At present, Mumbai has 2,513 active Covid-19 cases, the bulletin said. The case doubling rate of Mumbai jumped to 1,691 days. The BMC said 167 of the 192 new patients, or around 87 per cent, were asymptomatic.

Maharashtra on Monday reported 1,966 fresh Covid cases, over 1,500 less than the day before, and 12 fatalities due to the viral infection, the state health department said. With the latest additions, the overall tally of infections rose to 78,44,915 in the state. With the detection of eight new cases of the Omicron variant- all from Mumbai- the number of such cases went up to 3,994. A total of 3,334 Omicron patients have been discharged so far following a negative RT PCR test report.

MMR reported 345 cases. The total number of recoveries in Maharashtra increased to 76,61,077 after 11,408 patients were discharged on Monday, leaving the state with 36,447 active cases, the report stated.

The Covid-19 fatality rate in Maharashtra now stands at 1.82 per cent. The case recovery rate is 97.66 per cent. The positivity rate is 2.17 per cent, as per the report.
