The Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) on Friday fined the family of a bride Rs 50,000 for having a marriage function with more than the permitted 25 guests.

The bride’s brother, Pramod Vyas, paid the fine for the violation. The wedding was held at Aashirwad Hall at Jadhav Residency in Nalasopara in the afternoon. The function involved about 60 people. The state government’s ongoing restrictions related to Covid-19 are going to be in place till June 1.

VVCMC Assistant Commissioner Pankaj Bhuse said, “We received information at noon that many people had gathered in Aashirwad Hall for a wedding in violation of the government’s Covid-19 protocol. We rushed to the spot and found more than 25 people there. We also found many people not wearing masks and there was no social distancing. We fined them Rs 50,000.”

“According to the rules related to weddings, violators have to pay Rs 50,000. If they don’t, they can face a police case,” Bhuse said.

Officials said the government has restricted the number of guests at wedding to check the spread of Covid-19.
