The team from the BMC vaccinated 37 bedridden people on Friday in K East ward comprising Andheri East, Vile Parle East and Jogeshwari East on a pilot basis. The vaccination drive for homebound citizens will start from August 2. The corporation received 4,500 applications for vaccinations at home.

The state government has decided to extend the vaccination programme and inoculate people who cannot move out of the house due to physical or other medical reasons. The programme has started on Friday on a pilot basis. “A total of 37 citizens were vaccinated on the first day. Fourteen of them live in old age homes.  The remaining 23 were vaccinated at their homes,” said an official from the BMC.

The vaccination initiative is being supported by Project Mumbai, a non-governmental organisation.
