Vaccines by Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute of India (SII) were formally approved by the Central Drugs and Standards Committee (CDSCO) on Sunday.


The health ministry has said that 3 crore frontline workers will be vaccinated for free.


So, BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation is gearing up to start its vaccination programme for the city.


The process of vaccination will take place in three phases. The first phase has been slated to finish in 15 days and 8 centres have been identified for that. The process of vaccination will start 24 hours after the civic body receives the vaccine, reported Mumbai Mirror.

1.25 lakh health workers will be vaccinated in the first phase. In the second phase, police personnel and other essential workers will be vaccinated. Lastly, around 50 lakh Mumbaikars will be vaccinated in the third phase.

Of the eight vaccination centres, 2,000 people will be vaccinated daily at KEM, Nair, Cooper, and Sion Hospitals. A thousand people will be vaccinated every day at four centres - Bhabha Hospital (Bandra), VN Desai Hospital (Santacruz) Rajawadi Hospital (Ghatkopar), Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital (Kandivali).

Reportedly, later the number of centres will be increased to 50
