A newborn baby weighing around 1.4 kg was found abandoned in a garbage bin near Powai in Mumbai on Monday, June 12.

An alert citizen, who noticed the baby, alerted the Powai police. The baby was rushed to the civic-run Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar for medical treatment.
According to the official, the baby was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit.
The Powai police is further investigating the matter, stated the BMC release.
"When the police brought the infant to the hospital, he was shivering with cold. His body temperature had also dropped due to the cold. However, the infant was given timely and appropriate treatment under the guidance of the hospital's Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experts. Also adequate care was taken to ensure that the infant does not get any infection," said the BMC official.
Recoverying in the hospital, the baby presently weighing 2.2 kg, is being fed milk through Simyl MCT and Human Milk Bank.
The Human Milk Bank at Rajawadi Hospital is the first ever human milk bank in a municipal suburban hospital.
According to the officials, Archana Pawar, a female police constable of the Powai Police Nirbhaya Squad, is continuously stationed at the hospital and is taking care of the baby.
Rajawadi hospital authority has provided information on the incident of finding the baby to the concerned police station and based on that the police administration is conducting further investigation.
