Allowed to register on the site for anti-Covid-19 vaccination, 493 lactating mothers across the city took their first dose on Wednesday. A total of 479 of them were administered the vaccine at civic-run centres, 10 at government hospitals and the rest at private facilities.

The Union health ministry had on May 19 allowed vaccination of breastfeeding mothers against novel Coronavirus, following which the BMC opened on-site registration for them from Monday to Wednesday. The vaccine was given after producing required medical documents, including the date and place of delivery, at the centres.

On Wednesday, 34,257 citizens were vaccinated against the disease in Mumbai, out of which 95 per cent took their first dose. Among the recipients of the first dose, 12,309 were aged between 18 and 44 years, 13,280 were in the 45-59 years age group and 6,595 were senior citizens. Only 2,272 Covaxin doses were administered on Wednesday.
