As many as 35 vaccination centres across the city were not operational on Sunday

The shortage of COVID-19 vaccines has gripped the city once again. As many as 31 private centres in Mumbai paused their sessions on Monday owing to the unavailability of doses. About 35 vaccination centres were not operational on Sunday.

With the vaccines in stock, the city managed to inoculate 35,309 beneficiaries against novel Coronavirus between the second shift on Sunday and first shift on Monday, the BMC said. The beneficiaries who turned up for their shots during this period include 13,793 senior citizens, 19,097 people aged 45 and above, 876 healthcare workers and 1,543 frontline workers.
A total of four cases of adverse effects were reported across the city.
With this, the total number of beneficiaries vaccinated in the city so far has surpassed 20 lakh. Since the drive was launched on January 16, 2021, the city has managed to vaccinate 20,04,376 senior citizens, those aged 45 and above, and healthcare and frontline workers.
mid-day was the first to report about a second wave of vaccine shortage heading towards the city. On Friday, this newspaper reported about Shatabdi Hospital, Kandivli, ran out of anti-COVID-19 vaccine doses. The hospital had decided to vaccinate only those with prior appointment, but even they were turned away on Friday.
