Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Sadanand Date had asked for the transfer, as he wanted more experience of working in central agencies

Mumbai: Crime Branch chief transferred to CRPF

Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Sadanand Date has been transferred on deputation to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Though the Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, is considered a prestigious post, after serving for a year, Date asked for a transfer.

He had asked for the deputation to get more experience of working in central agencies. One of the heroes of the 26/11 attacks, he had been injured by terrorists Ajmal Qasab and Abu Ismail’s bullets during the attack at Cama and Albless Hospital.


Date, a 1990 batch IPS officer was previously Joint Commissioner, Law and Order, in the city and was also the chief of Force One, formed by the state immediately after 26/11 terror strike. Date has also been awarded the President’s medal. He solved several cases like software engineer Esther Anuhya murder, the firing case on Karim Morani.

After Date’s transfer, Deven Bharti Special Inspector General of Police, Law and Order, V V Laxminarayana Joint Commissioner of Police, Thane and Dhananjay Kamlakar Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) are in the race to head the Crime Branch.
