An attempt to rob passengers in Devgiri Express en route to Mumbai was foiled as passengers showed the presence of mind and shut the windows immediately.

The incident occurred just before Potul Railway Station in Aurangabad. The loco pilot of the Devgiri Express couldn’t see the signal while approaching Potul and applied emergency brakes. Following this, miscreants attacked the train.

“As soon as the train stopped, we heard heavy stone pelting on the train. It was like a rain of stones. Passengers were alert and started shutting the windows. Meanwhile, before I could understand anything, somebody snatched my golden chain from behind,” tells Laxmi Nune Prabhakar, resident of Elphinstone Road.

"Due to the heat, many passengers are keeping the windows open, robbers wanted to take advantage of that. But once the passengers started shutting the windows,  their attempt to rob multiple passengers was foiled," told a police officer.

Mokshada Patil, SP, Aurangabad Railway police said, “We suspect this is a handiwork of 3 to 4 persons. The modus of the robbery is the same as one incident reported earlier. But no knife or gun was used. We had a meeting with RPF Police on Friday and asked them to have compulsory patrolling on the long route trains.

Meanwhile, teams have been formed to hunt down the accused,” she said.
