Mid-day impact: Illegal huts in Aarey greens demolished

Officials demolish the hutment

Taking serious note of mid-day’s report on illegal hutments that had come up at Aarey Milk Colony by encroaching a huge patch close to the forest, the Aarey Chief Executive Officer’s (CEO) office has demolished the hutment. Aarey Milk Colony CEO Ravindra Pawar said, “We have completely demolished the illegal hutment that was constructed in our jurisdiction near unit 17.”

Pawar said, “Instructions have been given to our security department to take action against illegal encroachments or hutments in future too.” The security officer from the CEO’s office visited the area on Friday and found that the encroacher had not only built a hut but had also constructed a compound surrounding it using sticks and bamboo. Subsequently, it was cleared.

The security officer told mid-day that they would keep a tab on the location and see that no further encroachment comes up.  As per the article published by mid-day on February 15, recently forest officials came across a few huts where banners had been put up saying it had been done by volunteers from ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan’, an initiative under the state’s department of environment and climate change. Later the  forest department officials had gone to the spot and had removed the banners but could not demolish the huts as they had been on the land under the jurisdiction of the Aarey CEO’s office.
