March 26 will mark four months since thousands of farmers began gathering at the borders of Delhi, demanding the repeal of the recently passed farm laws. The Samyukt Kisan Korcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farming organisations from across the country, has given the call for a nationwide Bharat bandh. While the state unit of the AIKS is supporting it, the bandh won’t be as intense as the one on December 8, 2020, amid the rising COVID cases.

Ajit Navale, general secretary, All India Kisan Sabha’s (AIKS) Maharashtra unit, said: “An invitation to support the March 26 Bharat bandh has been given to numerous social organisations and groups. The bandh will be observed across 21 zillas in Maharashtra where AIKS has a strong presence. The number of people for demonstrations will be limited to 50.”

AIKS President Ashok Dhawale told mid-day, “Because of the galloping Corona problem in Maharashtra, the bandh will be observed will a lesser intensity. The SKM has also exempted states where elections are taking place, from observing this bandh, we do not want to interfere in campaigning.” He added: “There will be programs held in rural Maharashtra, but as for Mumbai, there is no plan yet.”
