Major signalling upgrade work at Dahanu on Western Railway (WR) will lead to the cancellation and rescheduling of scores of suburban and outstation services this weekend.

“Due to non-interlocking work at Dahanu Road Yard on Saturday from 1 pm and Sunday from 8 am to 4 pm for replacement of signalling gears to change into electronic interlocking, several WR trains will be short-terminated, partially cancelled, cancelled, regulated or rescheduled,” Sumit Thakur, chief public relations officer, WR, said.

Officials said non-interlocking work is complex and entails temporary disconnection of points, signals, track circuits, axle counters and other signalling gadgets. The replacement of signalling gears is expected to increase the speed of trains in the rail corridor at Dahanu Road.

About 17 services will be partially cancelled and short-terminated on Saturday. Five trains have been cancelled on Sunday, including a Churchgate-Dahanu and Dahanu-Dadar service.

About 34 services will be partially cancelled and short-terminated on Sunday while 29 will be regulated/detained or delayed on the same day. One train, the Pune-Hazrat Nizamuddin AC Express, whose journey commences on Sunday, has been rescheduled by one hour.
