In solidarity with the agitating farmers, the Maharashtra Cabinet passed a resolution expressing  regret on the death of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday.

Later, the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi’s (MVA) three parties, the Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress gave a call for a statewide bandh on Monday, October 11.

Water Resources Minister and state NCP President Jayant Patil made a statement before the Cabinet and tabled a resolution expressing regret over the alleged killing of the farmers. The resolution was seconded by Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat (Congress) and Subhash Desai (Sena).

The MVA will protest and demand justice for the farmers on October 11. Earlier, the MVA had supported the farmers’ agitation being held at the Delhi borders. The MVA had decided to amend the laws instead of scrapping them against a popular demand, and invited suggestions and objections from the general public by September 20.
