Maharashtra records 2,779 new cases, city reports 483 infections

Even as Maharashtra recorded less than 3,000 fresh cases on Friday, Mumbai saw COVID infections below 500. Across the state, 2,779 people contracted the disease in 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 20.03 lakh cases.

Even as Maharashtra recorded less than 3,000 fresh cases on Friday, Mumbai saw COVID infections below 500. Across the state, 2,779 people contracted the disease in 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 20.03 lakh cases. Government numbers showed there 52 new coronavirus-related deaths across the state, taking the total number of such fatalities so far to 50,634. 


While Mumbai reported 483 new cases, Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivali municipal corporations recorded 90, 60 and 72 cases respectively in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.


Of the COVID deaths in the state in 24 hours, Aurangabad led the list at 11, followed by Mumbai with 9 cases. Of the casualties in the city, BMC officials said seven patients were suffering from other ailments, while all were senior citizens. Thane reported 3 deaths, taking the MMR tally to 13.


The state’s recovery rate now stands at 95.13 percent, with 3,980 patients discharged on Friday. Mumbai’s recovery trails a bit at 94 percent, while the city doubling rate has improved to 435 days. The city’s daily growth rate is now at 0.21 percent as the total count stands at 3.04 lakh cases. The city has 6,667 ongoing cases.

Mortality rate
The mortality rate in Maharashtra is 2.53 percent with 50,634 deaths across all districts. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,214. These deaths are the cases where patients had got the infection before testing negative but later died due to other complications. Meanwhile, the state saw 1.40 crore laboratory samples collected of which 20.008 lakh have tested positive with 14.27 percent positivity ratio.
