Maharashtra: One killed in slab collapse in Thane district

On Sunday, a 35-year-old man was killed when a slab of his house collapsed on him in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said. The incident reportedly happened at Shahapur.

On Sunday, a 35-year-old man was killed when a slab of his house collapsed on him in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said. The incident reportedly happened at Shahapur. 


A report in PTI quoted an official saying that the accident occurred at a tenement in the Shahapur area around 9 am. The victim identified as Sunil Khmbait was cleaning his house when the slab collapsed on him. 


Reportedly, the man was trapped under the debris and died on the spot. The official further said that a case of an accidental death was registered. 


Recently, some parts of a weather shed building collapsed in the Girgaon area of Mumbai collapsed. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) disaster control room, the collapse happened on September 20 afternoon. According to the civic body, the incident was reported around 3.35 pm. Following the collapse, relief operations were launched by the BMC staff, police and the Mumbai Fire Brigade. 

The incident took place at Bansi Bhavan in Khetwadi's third lane near Alankar Cinema in Girgaon. The civic body said that the parts of the building collapsed suddenly. 

Reportedly, some portions of the second and third floors of the weather shed building collapsed and some portions were precariously hanging. Some persons were trapped inside the ground plus the three-floored structure when it collapsed, they were rescued through the staircase. The hanging portion of the weather shed building was removed with bamboo and as a preventive measure, the area in the locality was cordoned off for some time.
