Maharashtra Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: 7 women of 17 contesting win seats; Congress secures 4 victories

Maharashtra Lok Sabha Election Results 2024 stated seven out of 17 women candidates fielded by major political parties emerged victorious. Notably, four of these winners were from the Congress party.


Among the prominent winners is Supriya Sule, who secured the Baramati seat for the fourth consecutive time, defeating Sunetra Pawar, the wife of her cousin and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. This was the first time two members of the Pawar family contested against each other in their home constituency. Sule won by a margin of 158,333 votes, slightly higher than her 2019 margin, reported PTI. 


Maharashtra Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Two women leaders from BJP win


The BJP fielded the most women candidates of any party, with six, but just two won, according to Maharashtra Lok Sabha Election Results 2024 data. Smita Wagh and Raksha Khadse won the Jalgaon and Raver seats, respectively. Khadse won with 287,183 votes, while Wagh had a 251,594-vote lead over her nearest challenger.

The Congress' four female candidates all earned their seats. Praniti Shinde, the daughter of former Union minister Sushilkumar Shinde, won the Solapur constituency by 74,197 votes over BJP MLA Ram Satpute.

Varsha Gaikwad, chief of the Congress' Mumbai branch, defeated BJP candidate Ujjwal Nikam in the Mumbai North-Central seat by 16,514 votes. Pratibha Dhanorkar won the Chandrapur seat, defeating BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar by 260,406 votes. Shobha Dinesh Bachhav won the Dhule seat, defeating incumbent MP Subhash Bhamre by 3,831 votes.

Maharashtra Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Pankaja Munde loses Beed constituency

The BJP's Pankaja Munde lost the Beed constituency to NCP (SP) candidate Bajarang Sonawane by 6,553 votes. Union Minister Bharati Pawar also lost her Dindori seat to NCP (SP) candidate Bhaskar Bhagare by 113,199 votes.

The BJP suffered significant defeats as its candidates, Heena Gavit and Navneet Rana, lost in Nandurbar (ST) and Amravati, respectively. Gavit lost to Congress's Gowaal Padavi by 159,120 votes, while Balwant Wankhade defeated Rana by 19,731 votes.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) ran two female candidates, Bharati Kamdi and Kalyan, but failed to gain any seats. The NCP, led by Ajit Pawar, also failed to win, with Archana Patil losing the Dharashiv seat to incumbent MP Omprakash Rajenimbalkar by 329,846 votes.

Rajshri Patil of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena was defeated by Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Sanjay Deshmukh by 94,473 votes in the Yavatmal-Washim constituency. Yamini Jadhav, another Shiv Sena candidate, lost to Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (UBT) by 52,673 votes.
