The Congress has named Ramesh Keer as its candidate for the Konkan Graduates constituency in Maharashtra's legislative council elections, which are slated for June 26.
The biennial Maharashtra Legislative Council elections are for four state seats: Mumbai Graduates, Konkan Graduates, Mumbai Teachers, and Nashik Teachers, as the present members' terms end in July. Keer will represent the Congress in the Konkan Graduates constituency, according to a party announcement.

The Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Uddhav Thackeray, has nominated Anil Parab for the Mumbai Graduates Constituency and J M Abhyankar for the Mumbai Teachers Constituency.
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Raj Thackeray, has filed Abhijit Panse in the Konkan Graduates constituency, while the BJP has renominated Niranjan Davkhare.
The Shiv Sena has also fielded Deepak Sawant for the Mumbai Graduates constituency in the Maharashtra legislative council elections, while the BJP has chosen Kiran Shelar. In addition, the BJP is supporting Shivnath Darade, the Maharashtra Rajya Shikshak Parishad candidate for the Mumbai Teachers' Constituency.
The deadline for nominations is June 7. Voting will take place on June 26, with the results released on July 1.
The Maharashtra Legislative Council has 78 seats. The current representatives of the Mumbai Teachers, Mumbai Graduates, and Nashik Teachers constituencies are Kapil Patil of the JD(U), Vilas Potnis of the Shiv Sena (UBT), and Kishore Darade, an independent MLC.
The Shiv Sena (undivided) has 11 members, NCP (undivided) has 9, Congress has 8, and BJP has 22 of the 78 seats. Other members include one each from the JD(U), the Peasants and Workers Party, and the Rashtriya Samaj Paksha, as well as four independents. Twenty-one seats are vacant, with the Governor nominating 12 and local body representatives selecting nine.
Notably, many MLCs from the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party have joined the factions led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, respectively, following splits in these parties.
