Three labourers employed for silt removal work were killed when the wire rope of a crane they were using broke, causing them to plunge into a well in Maharashtra’s Nashik.

The tragic incident unfolded in Mulane village of Satana taluka around 4 pm on Sunday, police said.

A crane was being used to lower and bring out labourers hired to remove silt from a well, a police official told newswire PTI.

The labourers were coming out for lunch break when the wire rope of the crane snapped, causing them to fall into the 50-feet deep well, the official said.

The trio sustained injuries, and during the second attempt to bring them out by crane, the rope snapped again, he said.

The men died by the time the locals managed to get them out of the well, the official added.

The deceased have been identified as Ganesh Tulshiram Nadekar (26), Nitin Ramdas Ahire (27) and Ganesh Vinayak Nadekar (28), he said.

Meanwhile, six people of a family were killed after their car went out of control and fell into a drain here on Monday, police said.

The incident happened in the early hours of the day near Jagannathpur village in Kanpur Dehat district when the family was returning from Madhya Pradesh after attending a 'tilak ceremony', they said.

Virat (15) and Vaishnavi (19), who were among the eight people travelling in the ill-fated vehicle, were saved by police, Superintendent of Police (Kanpur Dehat) BBGTS Murthy said.

Those killed have been identified as Vikas (40), his elder brother Sanju (45), Khushbu (17), Golu (16), Prachi (12) and Prateek (10). They were taken to Sikandra Community Health Centre where the doctors declared them dead, the SP said.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, police said.

In a separate incident, at least four persons were killed in two separate road accidents involving a tractor trolley and a motorcycle in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district, police said on Monday.

A tractor trolley with 25 persons on board overturned near Raipura village on Sunday night, leaving three persons dead and more than 10 others injured, said Chhatarpur Superintendent of Police Amit Sanghi.

"The deceased included the tractor driver and two others. More than 10 persons injured in the accident are undergoing treatment at a hospital," he said. (With inputs from PTI)
