Dnyanoba Kale was the breadwinner; after he was dismissed from the force in 2019 over assault allegations, his batchmates lost touch with him, but are crestfallen about his death

Over 400 Maharashtra police officers came together to raise Rs 21 lakh in two days for a deceased batchmate’s family. Dnyanoba Kale was dismissed in 2019 while he was serving as a police sub-inspector (PSI). He returned to his home town and later died of Covid-19.

Kale got into Maharashtra Public Service Commission (in 2013. He attended Maharashtra Police Academy in Nashik and was part of the 111 DN batch. His first posting was at Deglur, Nanded. In June 2019, when he was posted at Himayat Nagar police station in Nanded, he was accused of assault by a citizen. He was dismissed from service and he opposed it at the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal and his batch supported him. Kale, 39, died during treatment in his native Paranda, Osmanabad on May 1. He is survived by his wife, Meera, daughter Sanchita,13, and son Sarthak, 7, parents and sister.
“We were good friends. Unfortunately, he was dismissed from service. He slipped into depression and we lost touch,” said Awez Kazi, Kale’s batchmate and a PSI posted in Latur. “We felt terrible about his death.” Around 550 members of his batch decided to help his family as he was the sole income earner. The Rs 21 lakh will be deposited in a bank as fixed deposit and used for the education of Kale’s children. “Dnyanoba was our captain in the police academy and was loved by all. We hope to at least ease the family’s struggle through monetary help,” he added.
