Results for the tests to professional courses will be declared by October 20, says govt; plans to start academic year for these courses from November
The CETs will be held for admission to courses like engineering, MBA, pharmacy, law and architecture
The Common Entrance Tests for various professional courses in Maharashtra will be held between September 15 and October 10, announced state Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant on Tuesday, putting an end to the anxious wait of lakhs of students. The results will be declared by October 20. The government plans to begin the academic year for these courses from November, either online or offline, depending on the Covid situation.

Around 8.6 lakh candidates have registered for different CETs this year seeking admission to professional courses like engineering, MBA, pharmacy, law and architecture. After Std XII results were declared in July, all these students were waiting for clarity on CET so that their higher education journey could begin. But several rumours the tests had left them confused and anxious. Students were also shocked with a fake CET timetable last week.
As per the information provided by Samant’s office, the MHT-CET exam which is held for admission to engineering, pharmacy and agricultural courses is taken by a maximum number of students–over 4.5 lakh. “It will be held between September 20 to October 1. The law CET for five-year LLB programme will be held on October 3. MBA/MMS CET is scheduled on September 16, 17 and 18. Most entrance exams for masters' programmes like computer applications, hotel management will be held on September 15,” said the minister, adding that all exams will be held adhering to the Covid protocol.
The minister also spoke about plans to start colleges. He said, “The result will be declared by October 20. The academic year should begin for all these courses from November. However, whether it will be offline or online is to be decided based on Covid conditions at that time.”
This year there are a total of 226 exam centres wherein 50,000 computers will be ready for students to take the CETs. While 86 per cent of candidates will get the exam centre as per their first preference, the remaining will be getting their second preference. The admission registration process will begin from September end. In Mumbai, students will be allowed to board local trains on exam dates. They can get a train ticket by showing the exam hall ticket.
FYJC admissions
Meanwhile, after the second round of FYJC (First Year Junior College) admissions, a total of 1,08,402 admissions have been done in the Mumbai division. While 28,988 from these were done under the minority and in-house quota admissions, 79,416 were completed through a centralised online admissions process. In the first round, 58,300 candidates secured seats, in the second round 21,116 have confirmed their seats. There are still 1,19,333 seats vacant for admissions. A total of 2,38,296 candidates had applied for admissions through the centralised online system.
