Hujefa Daware had bent down to tie his shoelace and didn't realise the pointed object was moving towards him, PTI reported quoting an official. Daware, an active member of the school's javelin team, had been preparing for an upcoming taluka level meet. The tragic incident occurred on fateful Wednesday afternoon while students were engaged in javelin throwing practice on the school's grounds.
As the practice session was underway, a fellow student hurled a javelin, the official said.
However, Daware apparently failed to notice that the long stick with a pointed end was flying in his direction. The teen was hit in the head when he bent down to tie his shoelace, the official said. Daware collapsed on the spot after the javelin pierced his head. The profusely bleeding student died before he could be taken to the hospital, the official said.
The Goregaon police in the district have registered a case of accidental death for now and are examining if there was any negligence on the part of the student who threw the javelin, he said. The police has also sought the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the school and the ones covering the playground.
A probe into the matter is going on, he added.
On Wednesday, three members of the family were killed and two others were left injured as the speeding car they were travelling in jumped the divider and crashed into the truck coming from the opposite side on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.
According to an official, “The driver was speeding, and the car initially collided with the road divider before crashing into a truck on the opposite side of the road.” The truck driver shared his account with the police, saying, “Around 6 in the morning, a Maruti Dzire approached from the opposite direction and collided with my truck. There were five people in the car, of which three lost their lives, and two survived. The accident caused significant damage to both the car and the truck.” (With inputs from agencies)
