A 30-year-old househelp and mother of three allegedly jumped off the fifth floor of a Bandra high-rise on Sunday. The police said the woman arrived in Mumbai four days ago and was working at the house of the couple who own the flat she jumped from. The flat owners told the police that she did not wish to work and wanted to return to Jharkhand because of her three children whom she had left with her in-laws. The Bandra police have registered an Accidental Death Report and have started an investigation.

According to the police, the couple had hired Kappu through an agent for cooking and cleaning. On Sunday, around 3.30 am, Kappu allegedly jumped off the balcony. A newspaper supplier, who came to drop the newspaper at the building saw Kappu on the ground. He immediately informed the watchman and the police.
Speaking with mid-day, Senior Inspector Rajesh Devare of Bandra police station said, “We received information about the woman and rushed to the spot. We found Sarita Kappu on the ground and rushed her to hospital where she was declared dead before arrival. We sent the body for a postmortem and later handed it over to her husband who came from Goa.”
“During investigations, we found out that the woman was forced to leave her kids and come to Mumbai because of financial constraints. The flat owners had even booked train ticket for her to return home after she insisted on leaving. We have recorded their statements.”
