The tankers cost Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000

If their water supply is not restored by August 13, residents and a former corporator will protest against the water shortage in Andheri. The area has been facing a shortage since the last one-and-half months. Though the water cut has been withdrawn, the area is still not getting enough water.

Since the lakes supplying water to the city have more than 82 per cent of stock, the BMC had withdrawn its water cut. “We have been facing this issue since July 20. We already complained to ward officers several times. Even now, we are not getting enough water and we are spending anywhere between Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 on tankers,” said Prasad Pendse, secretary of Vijay Nagar Society.

Societies and chawls near the Jeevan Vikas Kendra area, Jumbo Darshan area, Paranjpe B Scheme along with other areas are facing the water shortage issue. “We need a solution, otherwise we will protest at the BMC office,” said Abhijeet Samant, former corporator from the area.

Purushottam Malawade, chief engineer of the hydraulic department said that on Saturday, the city received 4,000 MLD water, so the issue is at the local level and officials have already been instructed to look into the matter.
