Falguni Pathak to perform for Rs 50L less than last year this Navratri

After performing in Ghatkopar last year for Navratri, Dandiya queen Falguni Pathak is going back to her roots this year, as she prepares to regale audiences at her old haunt in Goregaon yet again. What’s more, the crooner is going back to the western suburb even though the return involves a pay cut of Rs 50 lakh.

Falguni has been signed on by event management company Wizcraft and will take home Rs 1.5 crore for the nine nights of the Navratri this year about Rs 16.66 lakh for each night that she performs. For her nine-night-long performance last year, she was paid Rs 2 crore.

Pathak has reigned supreme in the city’s dandiya scene for more than a decade now. The only time she took a hiatus from the city was in 2010, when she performed in Ankleshwar in Gujarat.

A source who keeps abreast of developments in the city’s dandiya circles said, “Falguni wasn’t too happy leaving the western suburbs and going to Ghatkopar last year. She wanted to go back to her original location, and so decided to settle for a price that was less than what she took home last year.”

While Falguni’s performance in Ghatkopar last year was a roaring success, the singer wasn’t pleased by the heavy political presence at the event. “She wants to entertain the public, and has always refrained from sharing the stage with politicians, but was forced to do so last time.

To make sure that doesn’t happen again, she has chosen an event management company which is sure to organise a professional event,” said another dandiya organiser, who has earlier worked closely with Falguni.

While Falguni remained unavailable for comment, a source close to her said, “Coming back to Goregaon Sports Complex is like a homecoming for Falguni. Even the people associate Falguni with this location and it will be dandiya nights once again for Mumbai.”

There’s even more good news for those who love to see her perform in Goregaon the contract with contract with Wizcraft is for three years, indicating that she could be performing in Goregaon the next two years as well.

Sabbas Joseph, director, Wizcraft International, said, “Wizcraft is creating a unique festival around Raas Garba, bringing the community together and building a celebration that everyone is proud to be part of. We hope that it becomes the biggest dandiya festival that the world has ever seen.

We will be starting off with the most popular dandiya performer of all time. Inking a multi-year deal with Falguni is the first step in this direction. We hope that it is a relationship that will last forever.”
