A bone marrow transplant allows six-year-old Milly Smith to finally go out and play with friends
Hampshire: Six-year-old girl, who was suffering from a rare immune disorder, was saved by a life-saving transplant from her elder sister.
Milly Smith, born with a disease which left her with no immune system, found a perfect bone marrow match in her eight-year-old sister, Kacey.
The transplant has been 98 per cent accepted by her body and she can play outside for the first time in years.
Kacey said, “I feel quite proud about what I did. Before the operation we were all quite sad. Now she is happier and can play out. We can go to McDonald’s, too.”
Milly says her sister was nice and kind to help her. “I can’t remember how I felt before but now I feel
quite alright.”
Parents Theresa and John, both 39, said they realised something was wrong with Milly since her birth. Constantly in and out of hospital with a variety of illnesses, she almost lost her battle with a chest infection when she was 16 months old.
Now, Milly is on the road to complete recovery and the family is planning its first trip to Spain in June.
