There were fewer crowds at railway stations in the city on Friday as the state govt’s ‘Universal Travel Pass’ weblink worked well, verifying vaccination certificates, though a few complained of glitches. A commuter uploaded his vaccination certificate under ‘self-image option’ and got the e-pass with its image as “holder’s photograph”.

Once a citizen accesses the portal https://epassmsdma.mahait.org and enters the OTP, details like beneficiary name, mobile number and beneficiary reference number appear automatically. After selecting the options, the system will automatically show the information of the applicant including the date of the first and second shot of the Covid vaccine and other relevant details.

The eligible citizen is then supposed to upload his/her picture in the ‘Self Image’ option. Pictures can also be uploaded from a cell phone’s gallery or a photo can be clicked on the spot using the mobile camera.

A commuter at Kurla, Subhash Gupta, got the weblink and much before reading the options, he uploaded the image of his vaccine certificate instead of his own image. He thought the form would be rejected. But the universal pass was generated with the certificate as the “holder’s photograph”.

“It was my mistake. I did not read and upload the image in a hurry. But this means that there is no checking mechanism to see if the photo uploaded is of the same person concerned or something else.

Tomorrow I could upload any random image and that would be taken as the holder’s photograph. Now I do not know how to correct it. I request citizens to be careful and upload their own image on the universal travel pass weblink,” he said.

Another commuter, Ravi Bapat, added that once the details are filled up, it takes over 24 hours to generate the universal pass.

“This process should also be speeded up,” he said.

Railway officials said Gupta would have to show any valid identity card, preferably Aadhaar as it has his photograph, to get the season ticket and that they would bring the issue to the notice of the state officials who are continuously upgrading the software to make it more user friendly.
