A court in Thane district has placed two directors of Amudan Chemicals in police custody until Friday following the Dombivli factory blast that killed ten people and injured 60 others. On May 23, an incident happened at a chemical factory in the Dombivli MIDC.

The company's directors, Malay Mehta and his wife Sneha Mehta, were presented before the Kalyan magistrate court. Police wanted to take them into custody for further investigation into the Dombivli factory blast. The couple's lawyer claimed that the explosion was caused by a heatwave, which prompted a chemical reaction, referring to the tragedy as an "act of God", reported PTI.

After hearing both sides, the court remanded the directors to police detention until May 31.

According to the report, the blast was so intense that it smashed windows and caused damage to nearby cars, roadways, and electric poles. Initially, just Malay Mehta was arrested, but Sneha Mehta was also arrested after further questioning.

A three-member high-level committee has been formed to investigate the Dombivli factory blast, and a report is anticipated within three weeks. Furthermore, an experienced team from New Delhi will investigate the exact cause of the explosion, the report added.

Residents have demanded that factories in the Dombivli MIDC region be relocated following previous occurrences. The industrial sector was originally on the fringes of the city, but rising urbanisation has brought new housing complexes near it.

Dombivli factory blast: High-level probe launched into explosion

The Maharashtra government has created a high-level committee to probe the circumstances and cause of the Dombivli chemical factory explosion, which killed 10 people and injured over 60, PTI reported on Tuesday. The panel's findings will be submitted within three weeks.

An expert team from New Delhi will also conduct an inquiry to ascertain the actual cause of the explosion, as efforts to locate any missing workers continue.

"A three-member committee, comprising principal secretaries from the Industries, Labour, and Environment departments, has been formed to probe the accident at the Dombivli chemical plant. The high-level committee will report its findings in three weeks," state Industries Minister Uday Samant said.
