Doctor held for raping 17-year-old girl in Thane

Doctor held for raping 17-year-old girl in Thane

The Mulund police arrested a 48-year-old doctor on Saturday for allegedly raping a minor. The 17-year-old girl mentioned in her complaint to the cops that the doctor took her in his car to Thane and forced himself on her.

The accused has been identified as Jayesh Katira who owns a nursing home in Mulund Colony. An officer from Mulund police station said, on condition of anynomity, “Katira owns Akansha Nursing Home in Mulund colony. Earlier this month, he met the victim for the first time when the latter visited his nursing home to get some medicines, as she was suffering from a severe stomach ache.”

In her complaint, the girl narrated that during the check-up, the doctor asked her to remove her clothes and clicked her nude pictures. “The complainant further claimed that Katira threatened her with dire consequences if she mentioned this incident to anyone,” added the officer.

On Friday, the doctor took her near Tikuji-Ni-Wadi in Thane and raped her. Later, he dropped her at her residence, following which she told her parents about the incident. Katira has been booked under Sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code along with relevant Sections under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He has been remanded to police custody.
