AMID no guidelines on the enrolment of senior citizens from the Centre, the BMC is planning to use the data collected during the My Family My Responsibility campaign for the third phase of vaccination. While civic-run health centres gear up for the first phase, enrolment of police personnel for the second phase, too, has begun. There are approximately 30 lakh senior citizens in the city. Those left out may be able to self-enrol through Aadhar or voter ID on the CoWIN app.

The three centres of the BMC - Rajawadi hospital, Cooper hospital and the BKC jumbo COVID centre are gearing up for the dry run of vaccination on Friday, January 8. In addition, the civic body is setting up units at another 75 health centres to vaccinate around 50,000 people daily. While the city's 1.25 lakh workers won't need such a huge infrastructure, it is being set up for the third phase. The huge number of senior citizens would require at least two months to be covered even with this kind of a set-up.

"We are waiting for guidelines from the Central government for vaccinating the elderly. Meanwhile, the data collected through My Family My Responsibility may have covered 70 to 80 per cent of the total senior citizens. We may start with that," said Suresh Kakani, additional municipal commissioner. Kakani added that there may be an option to self-enrol through Aadhar or voter ID on CoWIN app. "Based on this information, we will get to know people's age too," Kakani said.

At the time of the surveys, the civic body had said many households did not enter accurate data. On the other hand, even though the first phase is set to begin next week, the civic body still doesn't know the number of vaccines it may get for it. "Even though the planning of the vaccination drive depends on it, the number of doses we will get is unclear," said a BMC official.
