The Central Railway has undertaken a 63-hour mega block to undertake work on CSMT and Thane stations.
Work underway at Thane station/ Satej Shinde
On Saturday, Central Railway announced the commencement of crucial infrastructure upgrades at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) station aimed at improving safety, efficiency, and passenger experience. The CR has undertaken a 63-hour mega block to undertake work on CSMT and Thane stations.

"Central Railway proudly announces the commencement of essential infrastructure upgrade works at Thane and CSMT stations, aimed at enhancing safety, efficiency, and passenger experience," the CR said in its press statement about the 63-hour mega block.
Thane Station:
A 63-hour special block has been initiated to widen Platforms 5 and 6 at Thane station. This upgrade is essential to accommodate the increasing number of passengers and enhance infrastructure with features such as escalators and wider foot-overbridge stairways. On June 1, the placement of RCC boxes at Platform 5 was completed by 4:05 am, said CR.

Machinery and materials were swiftly mobilised, with a Poclain Excavator and a roller loaded onto the MBWT rake by 5:10 am. Equipment was promptly dispatched to New Mulund Goods Station, ensuring minimal disruption to the workflow. The arrival of a BRN rake with filling material at 5:50 am further accelerated the project's progress. The cementing of platform wall gaps is nearing completion. Over 350 labourers, including officers and supervisors, are working round the clock to ensure timely completion.
CSMT Station:
Simultaneously, a 36-hour special block is underway at the CSMT station for non-interlocking work in connection with the extension of Platforms 10 and 11. This project includes the implementation of an advanced Electronic Interlocking signalling system, a significant step towards enhancing rail safety and future mobility.

By the afternoon of June 1, work on 65 points out of 75, 51 tracks out of 120, and one signal out of 60 was successfully completed. More than 250 highly skilled and technically competent staff are involved in this endeavour.
