Cyclone Tauktae: Central Railway, Western Railway escape with few delays and pauses

Except for some delays and intermittent stopping of trains, Western Railway (WR) and Central Railway (CR) continued services without much interruption on Monday amid Cyclone Tauktae.

“Considering monsoon preparations, WR did not suffer major disruptions. There were stray incidents of branches/trees falling at some locations,” WR’s chief public relations officer Sumit Thakur said. Trees fell on the tracks between Charni Road-Marine Lines, Marine Lines-Grant Road and Churchgate-Marine Lines. A roof sheet fell on the tracks at Nalasopara. A plastic chair and a sheet flew onto the tracks at Andheri.

On CR, tree branches fell on overhead wires and a local train between Ghatkopar-Vikhroli. A few roof sheets flew away at CSMT and Byculla, a false ceiling at Kalyan’s passenger reservation centre collapsed during lunchtime. There were no injuries. A banner fell on the tracks between Chunabhatti and Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar at 11.45, stopping it till 12.15 pm. Harbour line services were also suspended between 1:20 pm to 2:40 pm due to waterlogging near Masjid Bunder. In the evening, fallen branches damaged overhead wires between Sewri and Cotton Green on the CSMT bound line. It was restored at 4:45 pm.
