Covid-19: Daily cases in MMR nearing 1K

Slowly but steadily, the number of daily cases in MMR region is inching closer to 1,000. On Saturday, the region reported 850 cases, including 388 cases in Mumbai. The test positivity rate of the city remained above one per cent after conducting 37,335 tests in a single day. The city reported four deaths, while the state reported 126 deaths.


Cases in the city have been showing an upward trend since last week, after the state government allowed partial reopening. The daily cases were below 300 a week ago, now they are close to 400. Meanwhile, there are 2,974 active patients, slightly more than the last week. Of the four deaths recorded, three patients had comorbidities. 


Cities like Thane recorded 49 cases, Navi Mumbai 66 and Kalyan-Dombivli 62 cases. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, witnessed 13 deaths, out of which six were reported in Kalyan-Dombivli and three in Navi Mumbai.


The state recorded 4,831 new infections with Pune circle reporting 2,060 cases, Nashik circle 901 cases and Kolhapur circle 778 cases. A total of 4,455 patients were discharged across Maharashtra after recovery and the number of active cases stands at 51,821.
