After a low turnout of frontline workers for the vaccination on Thursday, about 753 of them got inoculated on Friday. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had expected a total of 1,752 frontline workers to turn up for the drive. The civic body has also increased the number of vaccination centres in the city. More than 20 of them have been dedicated for the frontline workers.

While the BMC had registered 8,299 healthcare workers for vaccination on Friday, about 5,130 turned up, which is 78 per cent of what was expected. A 43 per cent turnout was recorded in terms of the frontline workers. The BMC inoculated 5,883 beneficiaries on Friday and a total of 68,837 till date. The hospitals where the new vaccination centres have been started include Kasturba, BARC and Bhagwati among others.

A civic official said, “As we were expecting a huge turnout and also to make it easier for the beneficiaries to reach the units, the number of vaccination centres has been increased. Slowly more frontline workers will be called for vaccination.”
