Covid-19: Mumbai’s TPR rises sharply to 1.71 per cent

Mumbai's test positivity rate (TPR) saw a significant rise on Wednesday along with a marginal dip in Covid-19 fatalities. The new cases in the city too saw a major jump and the figure went above 500. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 514 new cases were reported on Wednesday along with four deaths. The TPR was 1.71 per cent. 


The doubling rate continued to improve and was 1,277 days on Wednesday. All the four deceased had comorbidities and were above 60 years of age.


The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent and 604 people were discharged after full recovery on Wednesday.

The state’s Covid-19 cases saw a significant rise on Wednesday. As per the state health department report, 3,783 cases were reported. The state also saw a marginal rise in the number of deaths. Maharashtra registered 56 deaths on Wednesday as per the state report. The state’s TPR improved marginally and was 11.55 per cent. The state’s recovery rate was 97.07 per cent. 

The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 4,364 people were discharged after full recovery on Wednesday. The state has 49,034 active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) witnessed a significant rise in new cases on Wednesday. As per the state report, 970 cases were reported in the MMR, including those from Mumbai.

Apart from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai saw 74 cases, followed by Raigad, which registered 69 cases. Kalyan-Dombivili registered 59 cases while Thane had 39 cases. Vasai-Virar saw 31 new cases and Mira-Bhayandar reported 46 cases.  

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered two Covid-19 fatalities on Wednesday. Mira-Bhayandar and Raigad reported one death each.
