Covid-19: Mumbai’s TPR drops below 1 per cent

Both state and MMR see marginal dip in cases at 3,595 and 888, respectively

After witnessing a significant rise in the test positivity rate (TPR) on Wednesday, Mumbai’s TPR dropped below 1 per cent on Thursday. The city also saw a drop in new cases as numbers dipped below 500 along with a drop in Covid-19 fatalities as well. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 446 new cases were reported on Thursday along with two deaths. The TPR was 0.99 per cent.


Both the deceased had comorbidities and were above 60 years of age. The doubling rate continued to improve and was 1,279 days on Thursday. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 431 people were discharged after full recovery on Thursday. 


The state’s Covid-19 cases saw a marginal dip on Thursday. As per the state health department report, 3,595 cases were reported. The state also saw a marginal drop in the number of deaths at 45. Maharashtra’s TPR improved marginally and was 11.52 per cent. The state’s recovery rate was 97.06 per cent. 


Maharashtra’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 3,240 people were discharged after full recovery on Thursday. The state has 49,342 active cases. 

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) witnessed a marginal dip in new cases on Thursday. As per the state report, 888 cases were reported in the MMR, including the ones in Mumbai.

Apart from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai saw 73 cases, followed by Raigad and Panvel, which registered 69 cases each. Kalyan-Dombivili registered 62 cases while Thane had 41 cases. Vasai-Virar saw 30 new cases and Mira-Bhayandar reported 25 cases.

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered seven Covid-19 fatalities on Thursday. Thane and Ulhasnagar reported three deaths each, highest in the MMR. Navi Mumbai reported one death.
