Maharashtra sees slight rise in numbers with 28,438 fresh cases and 679 deaths

For the first time since the second wave of the pandemic hit the state, Mumbai recorded less than 1,000 cases on Tuesday. The city saw 953 cases and 44 deaths over the past 24 hours. It had reported the highest number of cases (11,163) on April 4. However, it has been recording cases below the 1,500-mark since last week.

The city’s test positivity rate (TPR) has seen a significant decline over the past couple of days and currently stands at 5.31 per cent. There has been a steady fall in the TPR since May 5. It fell below 6 on Saturday. On May 5 the TPR was 10.96, while last week it went below seven. The doubling rate continues to improve and is currently 255 days.

Of the 44 deaths in Mumbai, 28 patients had comorbidities, 31 deaths were of patients above 60 years of age, while 11 deaths were of people in the 40-60 years group. The city’s recovery rate has improved and was 93 per cent on Tuesday. A total of 2,258 people were discharged after full recovery on Tuesday.
Unlike Mumbai, Maharashtra saw a rise in new cases and deaths on Tuesday. As per the state government’s report, 28,438 new cases and 679 deaths were reported across the state. The state’s case fatality rate is now 1.54 per cent. A total of 52,898 patients recovered and got discharged on Monday. Currently, the state has 4.19 lakh active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported a significant drop in new cases.
The MMR saw 2,559 fresh infections on Tuesday, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Vasai-Virar saw 226 cases and Raigad 297 in the MMR. Thane reported 177 new cases, Kalyan-Dombivili 180 and Palghar 151.
The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 85 deaths, out of which Vasai-Virar reported 58 deaths, Thane reported eight, Navi Mumbai five and Panvel six.
