Mumbai reports 397 new infections, seven deaths; at 0.95 per cent, TPR also rises

A day after recording a drop in test positivity rate (TPR), Mumbai saw the figure rise along with the number of daily COVID-19 cases and deaths on Thursday. The TPR increased by 0.15 per cent to 0.95 per cent, and the city registered 397 new infections and seven fatalities. On Wednesday, the officials had confirmed 343 COVID-19 cases and four deaths.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) report, among the seven deaths confirmed on Thursday, six patients had comorbidities, four were senior citizens and two were in the age group of 45-59 years.
The doubling rate has further declined and was 1,825 days on Thursday. The city’s recovery rate, however, remained constant at 97 per cent after 507 more people
were discharged.

The state’s COVID-19 infection tally rose marginally to 5108, according to the state health department’s report. However, daily casualties from the novel Coronavirus dropped significantly to 159 on Thursday from 216 the day before.
The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent. A total of 4,736 people recovered and got discharged on Thursday, leaving 50,393 active cases in the state.
The daily cases in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also increased. According to the state report, the region recorded 851 cases, including the ones from Mumbai.
Raigad reported 93 cases, highest after Mumbai, followed by Panvel with 61 fresh infections. Kalyan-Dombivli recorded 60 cases, Thane 38, Navi Mumbai 57 and Vasai-Virar 28.
The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 13 COVID-19 fatalities. Thane Municipal Corporation registered four deaths, highest in the MMR after Mumbai. Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli reported two deaths each, and Thane, Vasai-Virar, Palghar and Mira-Bhayandar one each.
