Covid-19: Mumbai sees 692 cases on Wednesday, doubling rate at 716

On Wednesday, the city’s test positivity rate (TPR) saw a marginal rise but remained below 2 per cent. After registering one of the lowest TPRs of the second wave at 1.76 per cent on Tuesday, the city recorded it at 1.81 per cent on Wednesday.


Daily new cases also saw a significant jump at 692 and deaths at 25 saw a two-fold increase as compared to Tuesday. 



Mumbai had recorded the lowest TPR (1.76 per cent) on June 22 and single-digit fatalities. The doubling rate dipped for the second consecutive day and was 716 days on Wednesday. 


Of the 25 deaths, 17 patients had comorbidities, 13 patients were in the age group of 60 years and above, while 10 patients were aged in the 40-60 years age group.

On June 8, the city had reported single-digit Covid-19 fatalities for the first time in the second wave.

The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 96 per cent as 680 people recovered and were discharged on Wednesday. 

The state’s new Covid-19 cases saw a significant rise for the second consecutive day as they inched closer to the 10,000 mark. As per the state’s report, 9,771 new cases were reported. The Covid-19 fatalities in the state fell significantly to 141.

The state’s fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent and 10,353 recovered and got discharged on Wednesday. Currently, the state has 1.16 lakh active cases.  

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal rise in new cases. It reported 2,164 cases on Wednesday, including the ones reported in Mumbai.

Apart from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai with 148 and Raigad with 536 reported the maximum new cases in MMR. Thane reported 108 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivili saw 136 cases and Vasai-Virar reported 143 new cases each on Wednesday.

MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 25 Covid-19 fatalities on Wednesday, Vasai-Virar reported 11 deaths, the highest in

MMR after Mumbai. Thane saw two deaths and Raigad reported six deaths. Panvel had four deaths and Palghar reported one death.
