COVID-19: Mumbai sees 10 deaths for second consecutive day, reports 3,260 cases

On Monday, Mumbai saw 19,347 tests conducted. The test positivity rate - positive results among 100 tests - is 17 per cent, almost the same as last June. The recovery rate dropped to 90 per cent from 94 per cent a month ago.

After registering the highest number of COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the figures came down slightly on Monday, probably due to fewer tests on the weekend. The city reported 3,260 cases. The number of deaths which was in a single-digit since December 29, has increased. The city registered 10 deaths on the second consecutive day. The state registered less than 25,000 cases with 58 deaths.


On Monday, Mumbai saw 19,347 tests conducted. The test positivity rate - positive results among 100 tests - is 17 per cent, almost the same as last June.  The recovery rate dropped to 90 per cent from 94 per cent a month ago. With the recovery of 1,323 patients, the city now has 25,372 active cases. There were 10 deaths registered on Monday, out of which six patients had comorbidities. Two deaths were between 40 years and 60 years and the rest were above 60 years of age. 



There are 40 slum containment zones, 316 sealed buildings with five or more positive cases and 4,921 buildings with sealed floors with up to four positive cases in the city.  The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported 6,212 cases, including the ones in Mumbai. Thane recorded 655 cases, Navi Mumbai had 443, and Kalyan-Dombivli 705. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, saw 6 deaths.


Out of the state’s 24,645 new cases, the MMR reported 25 per cent. Pune circle reported 4,737, Nashik 3,721 and Nagpur with 4,231 also reported a higher number of COVID cases. Nagpur circle recorded 15 deaths, Nashik registered 8 deaths and Pune registered 5 deaths. The state’s recovery rate has dropped below 90 per cent. A total of 19,463 patients were discharged across Maharashtra on Monday, and the number of active cases increased to 2.15 lakh. The state had around 30,000 active cases in the first week of February.
