Mumbai saw a significant rise in the test positivity rate (TPR) on Monday, even as new cases and COVID-19 fatalities remained almost the same as on Sunday. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 419 new cases were reported on Monday along with five deaths. The TPR was 1.31%. On Sunday, the TPR was 1.16% with 420 new cases and five deaths.


Three of the five deceased had comorbidities. One of the deceased was in the age group 40-60 years and four were above 60 years of age. The doubling rate continued to fall and was at 1,194 days on Monday. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 447 people recovered and were discharged on Monday. 


As per the state health department report, 2,583 cases were reported in Maharashtra. The state also saw a significant rise in the number of deaths. The state saw 28 deaths on Monday. The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent, even as 3,836 people recovered and got discharged on Monday. Currently the state has 41,672 active cases.


The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also witnessed a marginal dip in new cases on Monday. As per the state report, 798 cases were reported in MMR including cases from Mumbai. Thane Municipal Corporation saw 61 cases, followed by Navi Mumbai with 57 cases. Panvel registered 55 cases. Kalyan-Dombivli registered 54 cases while Thane had 18 cases. Vasai-Virar saw 27 new cases and Mira-Bhayandar reported 42 cases.  MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered one fatality on Monday in Raigad.

Vaccination drive not at all centres today

Due to limited availability of vaccines, the vaccination drive will be  only at 73 out of 316 designated municipal and government vaccination centers in the BMC jurisdiction. The drive will continue at all the 316 centers from Wednesday onwards, said civic officials. The vaccine stock will be available by late tonight and will be distributed to various government and municipal centers on Tuesday.
