Covid-19: Mumbai’s TPR dips further to 1.47 per cent, cases drop too

The city’s test positivity rate (TPR) reached a new low in the second wave on Sunday at 1.47 per cent along with a marginal drop in daily Covid-19 cases.


After registering a TPR above 2 per cent on June 27, it remained less than that. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, there were 548 new cases in the city on Sunday and 24 deaths, marginally higher than Saturday’s figure. 



The city reported the highest number of cases – 11,163 on April 4 and then the decline started. There has been a steady decline in the TPR since May 5, when it was 10.96 per cent. The doubling rate improved and was 767 days on Sunday. 


Of the 24 deaths registered, 12 patients had comorbidities, 14 deaths were of patients above 60 years of age while nine were of those in the 40-60 age group. On June 8, the city had reported single digit Covid-19 fatalities for the first time in the second wave.

The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 96 per cent as 705 people were discharged after full recovery on Sunday. The state saw a marginal drop in fresh cases on Sunday. As per the state report, 9,336 infections were reported. The Covid-19 fatalities in the state also saw a significant drop as compared to Saturday as 123 deaths were registered.

Maharashtra’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent. About 3,378 patients were discharged after full recovery on Friday. Currently, the state has 1.23 lakh active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal drop in new cases. 

The MMR reported 1,775 cases on Sunday, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai saw 142 cases and Raigad 442. Thane reported 80 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivili saw 78 cases and Vasai-Virar 76 new cases on Sunday. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered three Covid-19 fatalities on Sunday. Raigad reported three deaths, highest in the MMR after Mumbai.
