Mumbai on Friday reported 128 new Covid-19 cases, the sixth day in a row when the figure remained below 200, and no fresh fatality, a feat that occurred for the sixth time this month, a civic official said. The case tally in the metropolis is 10,56,207 and the toll stood unchanged at 16,691, while the discharge of 200 people took the recovery count to 10,35,626, which is 98 per cent of the caseload, he said.


He said 88 per cent or 113 of 128 new patients were asymptomatic, with just 15 of them needing hospitalisation and two requiring oxygen support in the past 24 hours. Only 721 of the 36,102 beds earmarked for Covid-19 treatment in the city are occupied now, the official said, adding that the active caseload of the city stood at 1,014.



With 21,508 samples being examined in the past 24 hours, around 1,000 less than the day before, the overall number of tests now stands at 1,61,33,452, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation data showed. The positivity rate stood at 0.59 per cent, doubling time was at 4,238 days and the overall growth rate of cases between February 18 and 24 stood at 0.02 per cent.


Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Friday reported 973 new cases including 62 Omicron infections, and 12 fatalities, the state health department said. The state’s total caseload rose to 78,63,623, and toll to 1,43,687. Of 62 new Omicron infections, 60 were from Pune city and two from the Pune rural area. So far, 4,629 Omicron infections have been reported in the state, of which 4,456 patients have recovered.

There are now 8,668 active cases in the state, lowest since December 25, 2021, when the active case tally stood at 9,102. At least 2,521 patients were discharged from hospitals or recovered from infection at home in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recovered patients to 77,07,254. The recovery rate in the state is 98.01 per cent.

Of the eight administrative circles (each circle comprising several districts), the Pune circle recorded 372 new cases, followed by Mumbai circle (243), Nashik (117), Nagpur (78), Akola (64), Aurangabad (44), Latur (28) and Kolhapur (27). Of the 12 fatalities, Pune and Mumbai circles recorded three fatalities each, Akola two, and Nashik, Kolhapur, Aurangabad and Latur circles one fatality each.
