City records 483 COVID-19 cases, 8 deaths; cases hovered between 400-600 last month

While daily COVID-19 count continues to see ups and downs, the daily death toll in the city stayed in single digits throughout January. On Sunday, 483 new cases and eight deaths were recorded. The state recorded 2,585 cases and 40 deaths.

Over the past month, daily COVID cases were between 400 and 600 cases. The number was especially low on Sunday and Monday as the number of tests reduces during the weekend. But the silver lining is that the city reported less than 10 deaths every day throughout the month. The deaths started dropping below 10 in the last week of December. On December 31, there were nine deaths reported. In all, there were 235 deaths in January.


On Sunday, all eight deaths were of patients above 60 years of age and six of them had co-morbidities. Meanwhile, 244 patients recovered in the city. The recovery rate stabilised at 94 per cent. There are still 5,797 active patients in the city, out of which 325 are critical and another 1,639 are symptomatic. Right now, 3,159 COVID patients are taking treatment in hospitals. 

The state recorded 2,585 COVID patients, out of which 853 were reported in the MMR, including Mumbai. All the other cities in MMR reported less than 100 patients each. Pune circle registered 594 and Nagpur registered 404 cases. Out of 40 deaths, 12 deaths were reported in MMR (including Mumbai), 10 deaths were reported in Pune circle and 11 deaths were reported in Nagpur circle.

The cumulative number of cases in the state is 20.26 lakh and the recovery rate of the state is at 95.2 per cent, while 1,670 patients recovered and the number of active patients has reduced to 45,000 in the state. Out of total active patients, there are 13,000 thousand each in MMR and Pune circle.
