After recording the second wave’s lowest daily cases and fatalities on Monday, the city saw a marginal rise in new cases and deaths for the second consecutive day on Wednesday. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 289 new cases were registered along with 9 deaths in Mumbai.

The city’s test positivity rate also saw a rise but it remained below 1% on Wednesday. While on August 10, it recorded the second wave’s lowest TPR with 0.75%, on Wednesday it was 0.78%. The doubling rate rose to 1,755 days on Wednesday.
Of the 9 deaths, 6 patients had comorbidities, 5 deaths were in the age group over 60 and 3 deaths were between the 40 years-60 years group. The city’s recovery rate remained at 97 per cent as 1,157 people recovered and were discharged on Wednesday.
The state’s Covid-19 cases saw a dip as 5,560 were registered on Wednesday. The Covid-19 fatalities of the state continued to rise as 163 deaths were reported. The case fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent as 6,944 people recovered and got discharged on Wednesday. Currently the state has 64,570 active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a rise in cases but they remained below 1,000 on Wednesday. As per the state report, 795 cases were reported in the MMR including cases from Mumbai.
Apart from Mumbai, Raigad with 139 reported the maximum new cases in MMR followed by Thane with 60 cases. Kalyan-Dombivli reported 59 new cases while Panvel saw 52 cases and Vasai-Virar reported 30 cases each. MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 16 Covid-19 fatalities on Wednesday. Kalyan-Dombivli saw 5 deaths, highest after Mumbai followed by 3 deaths in Vasai-Virar.

Vaccinations suspended
The BMC has suspended the vaccination drive for the next two days due to limited stock of vaccines. The vaccine stock is expected to arrive by Thursday. The government and municipal vaccination centers will remain closed on Thursday and Friday. Vaccination will resume on Saturday, August 14.
