Covid-19: Mumbai cases fall below 2k, TPR drops marginally

Mumbai continues to see a dip in test positivity rate (TPR) and daily cases. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 1,857 COVID-19 cases were reported while there were 11 deaths in the city on Monday. The TPR was 5.41 per cent. In the third wave, the highest TPR recorded in Mumbai was 29.9 per cent on January 6. 


At the peak of the second wave, the highest number of single-day infections stood at 11,163.

Around 84 per cent of the patients found positive on Monday were asymptomatic. Of these 234 people were hospitalised and 56 of them are on oxygen beds. 

The recovery rate remained constant at 96 per cent as 503 patients were discharged. The doubling rate improved and was at 144 days.

The state saw a significant dip in the number of cases as well as the number of deaths.  As per the report, 28,286 new cases and 36 deaths were reported across the state.  

The state’s case-fatality rate continued to dip and was at 1.88 per cent. A total of 21,949 people were discharged during the day. The state’s active cases were at 2,99,604 on Monday.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region registered 4,773 infections, a significant dip. Thane Municipal Corporation and Navi Mumbai reported 467 and 753 cases respectively, highest in MMR after Mumbai. While Panvel saw 384 cases, Vasai-Virar had 141 cases and Thane city had 210 cases. Other than Mumbai, the MMR saw six deaths - three each in Raigad and Navi Mumbai. 

On Monday, 86 new Omicron infections were reported in the state. So far, 2,845 cases of Omicron have been registered, and 1,454 patients among them have been discharged.
