COVID-19: More recoveries than new cases in Mumbai and Maharashtra

The state recorded 51,751 new cases taking the total tally of Maharashtra to 34.58 lakh cases. The COVID-related deaths recorded in the state were 258 in the past 24 hours taking the total to 58,245 deaths in all.

After record breaking numbers almost every day in recent times, Monday saw a dip in the cases in the state and the city. Interestingly, there were more discharges than new cases in the state, as well as the city. While the state recorded less than 52K cases, the city too saw a dip with less than 7k cases. The number of deaths was less than 300 in the state.


The state recorded 51,751 new cases taking the total tally of Maharashtra to 34.58 lakh cases. The COVID-related deaths recorded in the state were 258 in the past 24 hours taking the total to 58,245 deaths in all.


The city saw 6,893 cases. The MMR recorded 14,424 cases in a single day. The Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivali Corporation recorded 1,465, 1,074 and 1,527, respectively in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. 


Over 5 lakh active cases in state

The state’s recovery rate stands at 81.94 per cent with 52,312 patients discharged. The total number of active COVID patients in the state is currently 5,64,746. The state saw 2.23 crore laboratory samples collected till date since March 2020, and out of these 34.58 lakh tested positive with 15.49 per cent positivity ratio.

Mumbai’s recovery rate now stands at 80 per cent while the doubling rate now stands at 36 days. The city’s overall growth rate has been steady in the past one week and stands at 1.89 per cent. The total count of positive cases recorded so far now stands at 5.2 lakh and the number of tests carried out so far is 46.50 lakh. There are 90,267 active cases in the city.

However, the mortality rate of the state is steady at around 1.68 per cent despite the increase in number of deaths recorded daily. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,532. These deaths are the cases where patients were positive and tested negative but later died due to other complications.

According to the state government’s data there were 258 COVID related deaths in the state on Monday, and the highest number of deaths was recorded in Mumbai at 43 deaths. MMR recorded a total of 73 death cases, including Mumbai. Civic officials said out of these 43 deaths, 36 patients were suffering from other ailments and 30 deaths were of senior citizens.
