COVID-19: Maharashtra sees highest deaths for the second day at 568

The state recorded 67,468 new cases taking the total tally of Maharashtra to 40.27 lakh. The COVID-related deaths recorded in the state were 568, taking the total to 61,911 deaths in all.

The COVID-19 numbers shot up over the 67K mark on Wednesday in the state, but the number of deaths are the highest ever figures, crossing the 500 mark for the second day in a row. The city numbers continued to be below 10K but were the highest ever deaths too. The state has crossed a cumulative 40 lakh positive cases and the city crossed 6 lakh.


The state recorded 67,468 new cases taking the total tally of Maharashtra to 40.27 lakh. The COVID-related deaths recorded in the state were 568, taking the total to 61,911 deaths in all.


Mumbai city saw 7,654 fresh cases, while the MMR recorded 16,491 cases. The Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivali Corporation recorded 1,343, 961 and 1,231 cases respectively in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. 


The state’s recovery rate stands at 81.15 per cent with 54,985 patients discharged. The total number of active COVID patients in the state is currently 6,95,747. The state saw 2.46 crore laboratory samples collected till date since March 2020 and out of which 40.27 lakh have tested positive with 16.36 per cent positivity ratio.

Mumbai’s recovery rate now stands at 84 per cent while the doubling rate now stands at 48 days, both steady since the last week, said officials. The city’s overall growth rate has been steady in the last one week and currently stands at 1.42 per cent. The total count of positive cases recorded so far now stands at 6.01 lakh and the number of tests carried out so far is 50.75 lakh. The active cases now stand at 84,743 in the city. The city saw about 6,790 patients being discharged.

The mortality rate of the state is steady at around 1.54 per cent despite the increase in number of deaths recorded in the past few weeks. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,720 so far. These deaths are the cases where patients were positive and tested negative but later died due to other complications.

According to the state government data there were 568 COVID related deaths in the state on Monday, and the highest deaths were recorded in Mumbai with 62 deaths. MMR too has crossed three figures in the number of deaths and recorded a total of 150 death cases. The civic officials said out of these 62 deaths, 40 patients were suffering from other ailments and 38 deaths were of senior citizens.
