After witnessing a significant drop in the test positivity rate (TPR) on Sunday, Mumbai’s TPR saw a jump for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. The TPR on Tuesday was 1.06%. On August 19, the city recorded the second wave’s lowest TPR at 0.53% after which the graph has been gradually going up.

The city also saw a marginal dip in new cases as there was only one Covid-19 fatality. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, on Tuesday, the city saw 323 cases. It was on August 16 that the numbers fell below 200 and recorded the second wave’s lowest daily cases. On April 11, 2020, the city recorded 189 cases after which the graph went up.
The patient who succumbed to the infection was in age group between 40 years and 60 years. The doubling rate continued to deteriorate and was at 1,511 days on Tuesday. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 272 people recovered and were discharged on Tuesday.
The state’s Covid-19 cases saw a significant rise on Tuesday as cases were registered above 4,000. As per the state health department report, 4,196 cases were reported along with a significant rise in deaths across the state. The state saw 104 deaths on Tuesday as per the state report. The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 4,688 people recovered and got discharged on Tuesday. Currently the state has 51,238 active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a marginal rise too on Tuesday. As per the state report, 705 cases were reported in the MMR including cases from Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Raigad reported 80, maximum new cases in MMR after Mumbai followed by Navi Mumbai with 66 cases. Thane Municipal Corporation reported 51 cases. Kalyan-Dombivli saw 48 cases and Vasai-Virar had 14 new cases on Tuesday.
MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 14 Covid-19 fatalities on Tuesday. Kalyan-Dombivli saw 7 deaths, highest in MMR. Thane saw two deaths, Navi Mumbai had 3 deaths. Raigad and Vasai-Virar saw one death each.
