For the past few days, both the state and the city were steadily reporting fewer than 2,000 and 400 fresh COVID-19 cases, respectively. However, on Wednesday, Mumbai’s daily figure jumped past 500 and Maharashtra’s new infections rose to nearly 3,000. Though the daily record of death toll remained steady at 30 across the state.

With 2,992 new cases on Wednesday, the state’s total tally of novel Coronavirus cases surpassed 20.33 lakh, including 3,10,141 in the city where 504 new cases were confirmed. In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli Corporation continued to report fewer than 100 cases, with 99, 95 and 84 new ones, respectively.


The total number of COVID-19-related deaths across the state reached 51,169 with 30 new casualties. Once again, Mumbai reported the highest fatalities among all cities, with seven confirmed dead from COVID-19. Pune reported five deaths. Navi Mumbai recorded two deaths. The civic officials said out of the seven deceased, five patients were suffering from other ailments and all seven were senior citizens.

The state’s recovery rate now stands at 95.58 per cent, with 7,030 patients being discharged across the state on Wednesday. Mumbai’s recovery rate was at 94 per cent while the doubling rate took a hit, as it dropped to 563 days from 565 on Tuesday. The city’s daily growth rate in the past one week was just 0.12 per cent. Currently, 5,625 patients are undergoing treatment for COVID-19 in the city. 

The COVID-19 mortality rate of the state was 2.52 per cent till date. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state stood at 1,246. These are cases where patients tested positive and then tested negative, but later died due to other complications. At least 1.47 crore laboratory samples have been collected in the state so far, and 20.33 lakh were found COVID-19-positive, with 13.77 per cent positivity ratio.
