Covid-19: Cases, fatalities in Mumbai see a significant rise

The city also saw a significant rise in new cases as well as  the COVID-19 fatalities on Wednesday. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, the city saw 416 cases and four deaths.

After witnessing a significant rise in the test positivity rate (TPR) for two consecutive days, Mumbai’s TPR dipped marginally below 1 on Wednesday. The TPR on Wednesday was 0.99 per cent.


The city also saw a significant rise in new cases as well as  the COVID-19 fatalities on Wednesday. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, the city saw 416 cases and four deaths.  



It was on August 16 that the numbers fell below 200 and recorded the second wave’s lowest daily cases. 


Of the four deaths, three had comorbidities, three were above the age of 60 and one was in the age group between 40 years and 60 years. 

The doubling rate continued to deteriorate and was 1,479 days on Wednesday. 

The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 329 people recovered and were discharged on Wednesday.

As per the state health department report, 4,456 cases were reported along with a significant rise in deaths across the state. The state saw 183 deaths on Wednesday as per the state report. The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 4,430 recovered and got discharged on Wednesday. The state has 51,078 active cases. 

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a significant rise on Wednesday. As per the state report, 877 cases were reported in the MMR including cases from Mumbai. 

Thane Municipal Corporation reported 80, maximum new cases in MMR after Mumbai followed by Panvel with 66 cases. Raigad reported 61 cases. Kalyan-Dombivli saw 56 cases and Vasai-Virar had 36 new cases. 

MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 9 COVID-19 fatalities. Panvel reported 5 deaths, highest in MMR after Mumbai. Raigad and Navi Mumbai witnessed two deaths each.
